Concept.

Drive already had a strong identity in its first studio in Naxxar, designed by Paula Agius Vadalà. The clients, Zara and Annabel, wanted to recreate that model on a bigger scale. Their main focus was
keeping community at its base while expanding the capacity and presence of the brand. Paula provided the initial draft layout for the contract and bank agreements, and we took over during construction. Our role was to ensure that the concept not only worked in the new site but also evolved, remaining true to the established brand guidelines. The studios had to be dark, contained, and immersive, while the reception and community areas were designed as bright and welcoming spaces where members could meet, connect, and share time together.

Building.

The construction process at Drive was anything but straightforward. Unexpected conditions, constant negotiations with the landlord, and unforeseen costs shaped the project day by day. Rather than a linear process, it became a story of obstacles, improvisation, and persistence. To capture this reality, we chose to represent construction as a comic strip; highlighting the key moments, conflicts, and breakthroughs that defined the project. It reflects the mix of humor, frustration, and determination that carried the project from an abandoned supermarket shell to a functioning community studio
